About...

My name is Tom McGaughan, and I started ‘fixing’ things back in the 1960's, maybe I should say taking things apart! Luckily, my father was pretty handy and encouraged me in all my endeavors building forts, fixing my friend's bicycles and working on our lawnmowers. In my teens, I eventually became the family's auto mechanic, doing tune-ups, oil changes, brake jobs and rebuilding carburetors on the cars.

Most of my initial skills were developed by helping my Dad remodel our own home. He taught me how to wire switches & receptacles, solder copper joints on water lines and use a variety of power tools.  I also became fairly proficient and steady painting with a brush on the wood windows back then.

My motto that I have used for over 25 years is "...when neatness counts", which was instilled in me by my father who always told me that cleaning up after doing our work was as important than the job itself. Of course, I assume that he used this edict to motivate me since I was the official 'cleaner-upper'!
